Makro reinforces its investment in logistics in Spain . The Spanish subsidiary of the German Metro has just inaugurated its new logistics center in Barcelona, in El Prat, for which it has allocated an investment of 15 million euros. The company has also focused on Madrid, Andalusia and the Basque Country , where it hopes to open other logistics centers in the coming years.
The company opened its first regional distribution Phone Lead platform in El Prat de Llobregat (Barcelona) a year ago and, after the progressive start-up period, held its official inauguration this week. The company invested 15 million euros in the installation, which represents the initial shot at its new last-mile center strategy. Beyond Catalonia, the plant also delivers to Zaragoza, Castellón and Mallorca with deliveries in less than 24 hours.
The Catalan facility is the third of this type that the company has, which until now centralized its distribution in Getafe (Madrid) and Quer (Guadalajara) . However, it is the first last mile, which does not distribute only to stores but directly to the hotelier or customer in the area. Thanks to this opening, both plants will be relieved of stress.
The center of El Prat is the first, but not the only one of this type. In the roadmap until 2027 is the intention to open four or five similar platforms in Madrid, Andalusia, the Basque Country and Levante.
On a technical level, the logistics center has up to 30 loading and unloading docks for trucks. Also ability to deliver products with four different temperatures: ambient, fruits and vegetables, refrigerated and frozen. It will have a range of 5,000 products and will be able to prepare up to 3,000 orders each day.
However, the same sources, who did not specify estimates of a possible impact on electricity receipts of the new methodology, stressed that the objective of the reform is to act on this volatility, although it is not so clear that it will do so on price levels, by introducing that greater weight to long-term prices.
